Butterkase, means "buttery cheese" in German. This is a semi-soft cheese, moderately popular in Germanic Europe and occasionally seen by all cheese-consuming countries. Butterkase has, as the name suggests, a buttery and smooth flavor. Its texture is very smooth, similar to provolone cheese. It is unusual among cow cheeses, as it is only allowed to mature for one month. It is perfect to be mixed with soft foods or to melt it.
